Ingredients

For pie:

  • 1 9-inch store-bought prepared pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. apple pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 6 medium apples peeled, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries

For streusel & topping:

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup cold butter
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • vanilla ice cream optional

Instructions

For pie:

  • Arrange pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate, and crimp or scallop the edges.
  • In a large bowl, stir together granulated sugar, flour, apple pie spice, and nutmeg.
  • Add the melted butter and almond extract, stirring to combine.
  • Add the apples and cranberries, stirring gently to coat.
  • Arrange the apple and cranberry mixture into the pie shell. This will take a bit of finesse to get everything to fit snug!

For streusel & topping:

  • In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbles.
  • Stir in sliced almonds.
  • Sprinkle over pie.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 60-70 minutes, or until apples are tender when pricked with a fork or toothpick.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before cutting and serving. Can be served warm or cold!
  • Cut and serve with ice cream.
