Here’s the story about these Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples: I get a text from my friend Lindsay – one of my best friends, and my best (and only) friend from law school. In fact, she was probably a taste-tester of mine when I did a lot of baking and cooking in law school! However, she would turn down a lot of treats because she didn’t want the temptation around. I totally get it, especially since I’m constantly surrounded by desserts these days. 🙂
Anyway, I get a text from her asking whether it’s a big deal that she added a tablespoon of nutmeg to a recipe instead of a tablespoon of cinnamon. I know that Lindsay is more of a cook than a baker, so I was surprised that she was using baking spices for something, and I immediately wanted to know what she was making.
Also, I candidly told her that a tablespoon of nutmeg is quite A LOT of nutmeg, and that it’s one of those spices where a little goes a long way. Eek.
She sent me the link to these Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples, and I’m not kidding when I tell you that I wanted to make them *immediately*. Like, on the spot. I actually searched my fridge to see if I had enough apples to throw this together. I didn’t, sadly, so I had to wait to experience the witchcraft that is these simple, but oh-so delectable Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples.
I don’t know why I felt so captured by this recipe, but I could.not.wait. to make these. Such a simple idea, but almost genius! Like apple pie, without the crust. Just perfectly sweet, gooey, spicy, apple pie filling. YAY.
Lindsay isn’t a huge sweet-tooth, and doesn’t do a lot of baking or dessert-making, but she said that she makes these Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples regularly for her husband – he likes to put them on ice cream, oatmeal, and yogurt.
There is so much to love here. First of all, you can make them in a crock pot. Hiiiii, what more do you need to know? Crock pot recipes are the best. I jump at any chance to use my crock pot.
Every single ingredient (except maybe the apples) is something you probably have on hand in your pantry. If you pick up a bag of apples, you can have these Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples anytime you want. The ingredients are super common and accessible.
These are soooo delicious, easy, and versatile. Apple pie filling in a sauce or topping. You can put these Crock-Pot Cinnamon Apples on ANYTHING!!! It’s such a simple idea, but such an amazing idea, and I’m so excited to have this recipe now.
By the way, Lindsay had to rinse off all the apples and start over with making that batch. A tablespoon of nutmeg is a helluva lot of nutmeg. 😉

If you love crock pot or slow-cooker recipes, I have a lot, but they’re all pretty much savory. Still, they’re worth checking out for simple dinners! My personal faves are this Slow-Cooker Coconut Curry Chicken, Slow-Cooker Chicken Paprikash, and Slow-Cooker Honey Mustard Chicken.

I was impatient and cooked it in my instant pot mini on porridge setting for 20 minutes. Since a cup of liquid is involved, I used half cup of water and a half cup of cider. This recipe is amazing! Thank you!

I’ve GOT to get an instant pot! I keep hearing about them, and I don’t yet have one. Maybe I’ll put it on my Christmas list – haha! Do you love yours? What else do you use it for? Thanks for letting me know how you adapted it, that’ll be a help to other readers too! I’m SO HAPPY you liked the apples. I find them addicting. 🙂 🙂 🙂

This recipe sounds amazing! I can’t wait to try it. I just have one question. What is Apple pie spice? I’ve never heard of it. Where is it sold? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks so much!
Sarah says
Hi Lori! Apple pie spice is a combo of spices in different proportions – I think it’s cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and maybe a little cardamom. You can actually make it homemade by combining spices in various proportions, but I just buy it. You can find it at any grocery store in the spice aisle, it’s very common and easy to find. I typically buy McCormick brand. Are you familiar with pumpkin pie spice? Similar idea! A premade combo of spices! Does that help? Thanks!!! 🙂

Do you have any idea about roughly how many cups 6 apples is? I have small apples to work with…. thanks!
Sarah says
I can’t believe it, I usually also include how many apples I used! I’m so sorry. I’m making this over the weekend, so I’ll confirm again after, but I think I used 4-5 medium, so I’d think 5-6 small! You can be a little imprecise about how many apples you use, you may just end up with a little more or less liquid.
